Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Danielle Sansone’s career comes into full bloom with her debut children’s CD, Two Flowers. The disc features 14 Danielle Sansone originals that the album’s producer, Will Robertson, calls “an ode to childhood wonder” and that Danielle Sansone describes as a collection of “lullabies and love songs.” Among the guest artists on ‘Two Flowers’ is Danielle’s brother, Patrick Sansone, a member of the alt-country icon Wilco.

Sprinkled with bluegrass interwoven with intricate symphonic swirls, Two Flowers conveys an intimate, indie charm. The album began as a simple recording of heartfelt songs that Danielle Sansone composed for her two daughters. Indeed, Danielle’s music is an evocation of the familiar term “heartland of America.” Her vocal delivery is grounded in the same rich American traditions as the Carter family in its most gentle moments, updated by underlying patterns that lend an almost minimalist, exquisitely hypnotic quality to Will Robertson’s arrangements. Danielle celebrates domestic balladry with every song, in pure folk music born of real life family experiences. The lyrics of many of the songs on Two Flowers address, in a gentle, loving way, the mysteries and realities of sleep, dreams and nighttime, topics that can be problematic for children in today’s often over-stimulating environment. Two Flowers is not only a repertoire document crafted by a truly gifted performer, but also works programmatically. The jubilant energy of the opening dance numbers winds down as the album becomes more intimate and reflective toward the end.
