The Okee Dokee Brothers - Kids With Beards

The Okee Dokee Brothers is a children’s music program under The Medicinal Strings Foundation, a non profit whose mission it is to promote, share, and inspire the arts within the lives of those most in need. Justin Lansing and Joe Mailander began their musical careers in a bluegrass-folk band recording albums and playing small venues throughout Colorado, Minnesota, and Wyoming. As they progressed through the competitive world of the music business, they made a conscious decision to change the direction of their music. Instead of playing and writing for a mainstream audience, Joe and Justin began to focus their art on those who entertainers often ignore.

In 2005, The Medicinal Strings Foundation gained 501(c)3 status from the IRS, becoming a certified public charity. Justin Lansing and Joe Mailander are co-founders of both The Okee Dokee Brothers and The Medicinal Strings and have provided over 130 free concerts to underserved communities over the past three years. Their performances are said to be reminiscent of the Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger tradition. The Okee Dokee Brothers teach to the Music National Standards, have extensive theater and choir experience, and are fluent in Spanish. The two Okee Dokee Brothers met in pre-school when Justin noticed that Joe was the only other four-year-old besides him that had a beard.
